A Weapon is a gun that fires projectile- or energy-based ammunition. Raiders use Weapons to attack and defend against ARC and one another.
Each Weapon belongs to a class that broadly describes its characteristics, such as the Assault Rifle, which rewards controlled bursts, or the Shotgun, which excels at close range. Raiders can permanently improve a Weapon through upgrades, or enhance it with swappable mods.
With few exceptions, the Ammo type determines how easily a Weapon penetrates ARC armor, ranging from very weak to very strong.
Upgrades
After constructing a Gunsmith, Raiders can use materials found Topside or purchased from Traders to permanently improve the characteristics of most Weapons up to three times. The numerals I, II, III, and IV in a Weapon's name indicate how many times it has been upgraded. The specific improvements granted vary by Weapon.
Upgrading also restores a Weapon's appearance, gradually replacing rust and faded paint with a cleaner finish until it looks new.
Weapons with the Legendary rarity cannot be upgraded.
Mods
Weapon mods, also known as modifications or attachments, are items used to adjust the properties of a weapon. Each weapon has a limited number of special slots that can accept mods. Unlike upgrades, weapon mods can be freely added and removed.
Raiders are encouraged to try different combinations of mods on their favorite weapons in the Practice Range.
