Weapons are the primary tools used by Raiders to attack or defend themselves while traversing Topside. Each weapon has a class (e.g. assault rifle, shotgun) that largely dictates its handling and shooting characteristics. Additionally, each weapon is capable of firing a single type of ammo which has different armor penetration values.

Upgrades

Most weapons can be upgraded, or leveled up, at the Gunsmith to permanently improve their characteristics beyond their base level. Upgrades are additive bonuses that can be granted up to four times, and the numerals I, II, III, IV are used to indicate what upgrade level a weapon has.

Weapons with the Legendary rarity cannot be upgraded.

Weapon Mods

Main article: Weapon Mods

Weapon mods, also known as modifications or attachments, are items used to adjust the handling or shooting characteristics of weapons. For example, some mods may reduce a weapon's recoil, while others may even increase fire rate. However, all weapons have a limited number of special slots that accept mods, and not all mods may equally benefit all weapons.

Not every Raider may have the same preferences for what mods to attach to each weapon, so it's recommended for Raiders to test different combinations in the Practice Range to find what works best for them.
