Experience (abbreviated EXP or XP) is a unit of measurement for increasing Raider level. 
Sources
As shown below, there are multiple ways of gaining XP:
- Scavenging (or searching)
- Damaging or destroying ARC
- Damaging or knocking out Raiders
- 5 XP per point of damage inflicted
- Time spent Topside
- 3 XP per second of playtime
- Successful extractions
