The Rocketeer is a large, flying ARC machine that often spells doom to any unlucky Raider unable to escape its airborne wrath. It's typically deployed in locations of high-value.
Attack
Aims 4 yellow lasers that, once lined up, turns red a moment before firing 1–4 missiles. Each missile dealing a significant amount of damage and can down a Raider in as little as two hits.
Combat Tips
The Rocketeer is a deadly ARC that, when engaged without sufficient cover, will quickly end in your demise. Before fighting, seek shelter in buildings or behind substantial cover. Aim for the thrusters while focusing on two in particular. If you manage to get higher than it or to ride the Rocketeer, you can shoot or stick a grenade to the top of its thrusters, since they don't have any armor.
Another way to effectively damage the Rocketeer is shooting off its "eyebrow" preferably with a high ARC Armor Penetration stat, then shooting the weak point on top of it with a high fire rate or low reload time weapon.
Landing a few Snap Blast Grenades on top of it can take it out easily as well.
Similar to other flying ARC, destroying two of its thrusters will cause it to fall towards the ground. When falling from a high enough height, it can be instantly destroyed by its own momentum. Any flying ARC that is stuck on the ground long enough will burst into flames.
It is possible to weaponize a Lure Grenade when fighting a Rocketeer as well as another ARC simultaneously - sticking the grenade to another ARC will cause the Rocketeer to attack and damage that ARC.
When the Rocketeer's laser disappears (signaling a full lock-on), do one of the following to dodge its attack:
- Dodge Roll
- Get behind cover
Use caution, as its rockets still do splash damage, so they can still hit you in some circumstances even if you are behind cover.
It may also be nice to note that 1 Showstopper grenade will take this ARC to the ground for a few seconds if you hit a thruster, allowing the Raider to attach mines to it or ride it. Hitting the core will stun it temporarily instead, but it will remain in the sky.
If you manage to hide from its field of view, the Red Scanner Behavior Stage will last about 20 seconds before transitioning to the Yellow Scanner Behavior Stage, which lasts about the same amount of time. When it reaches the Blue Scanner Behavior Stage, you can also observe its thrusters recovering from an inclined position to a straight position.
Loot
The Rocketeer Driver is a unique item dropped by the Rocketeer that's used to upgrade the Explosives Station.
Achievement Tips
Similar to other flying ARC, it is possible to ride on top of a Rocketeer. This can be done directly with the Snap Hook or careful positioning. Alternatively, stunning the Rocketeer with a Showstopper or Hornet Driver will cause it to fall to the ground, allowing for any Raider to easily climb on. Either way, you can then damage the Rocketeer with any weapon (including melee). Dealing 50 damage to any enemy while on top of a Rocketeer will also grant the Death From Above achievement. Be aware that the Rocketeer will execute a flip to attempt to throw you off if you've been riding for too long.
Codex Entry
Looming grimly in the skies, the Rocketeer is a large, heavily-armored, long-range artillery machine, dominating open spaces with its powerful missile launchers. It can target Raiders from afar, creating hazardous zones that force Raiders to stay on the move or seek cover.
ARC seems to station Rocketeers in key areas; guarding high-threat locations, or just roaming and making life miserable for Raiders. They are able to eliminate fortified human resistance points in otherwise hard-to-reach locations.
Like the Wasp and the Hornet, it sports thrusters to stay airborne. While these thrusters are technically weak spots, they are large and take a significant amount of firepower to destroy.
Though its devastating blasts have sent many an overly-bold Raider to the clinic, increased firepower and clever tactics have allowed some to take the Rocketeers down.
