During the First Wave winters, candleberries were used to create makeshift signal lanterns, food and medical remedies. It became a local tradition for Raiders to get together during the berry season to share rations and watch each other’s backs in the light of berry candles.
The tradition carried on as the Candleberry Banquet, celebrated yearly by most Speranzans. Some still treat it like the old days; a genuine celebration of what Raiders accomplished together. But plenty of others see it differently. Some Raiders keep it friendly and compete over who brought the best haul or telling the tallest tales. Others use the crowded feast as cover to swipe gifts meant for rivals, or even settle scores.
