Research into high-capacity, brine-based batteries was conducted as part of Project Heartwood. While rudimentary prototypes were successfully created, they never seem to have been brought into full production.
Much of the research conducted as part of Project Heartwood seems to have been highly classified, although documents reveal they were financed with public funds. Tian Wen suspects there must be countless research projects forgotten inside the vaults and safes of Stella Montis.
While the project yielded tangible results, it was ultimately deemed insufficient, and discontinued as a result. Ongoing projects were abruptly cancelled by a group named MANTIKOR, and the funds and resources redirected towards the Exodus Initiative.
Notably, this led to the power from the Alcantara Dam being rerouted to support the construction of the Spaceport, leaving much of Buried City exposed to rolling blackouts.
