Managing loadout
When selecting a map, you will be given the option to choose your loadout type from either a custom loadout or a free loadout.
Custom loadout
A custom loadout enables you to select the equipment you bring Topside from the items you've stored in your stash, matching your equipment to your objectives for each round.
The number of backpack slots available will vary between 16 and 24, depending on the augment equipped. Similarly, the number of safe pocket slots will vary between 1 and 3.
Each augment has a weight limit ranging from 40 to 80. If the combined weight of your loadout and your loot exceeds this limit, your stamina will be dramatically reduced.
It is possible to go Topside with no loadout at all - technically this is a custom loadout. It will give you 10 backpack slots and one safe pocket. If you are looking for one particular item (especially in a dangerous area like Stella Montis) this may be preferable to the free loadout, which does not have a safe pocket.
Free loadout
Free loadouts are basic sets of second-hand gear scrapped together from the leftover gear down in Speranza. You will receive a combination of low-tier gear and some utility items. When selecting a free loadout, items in your custom loadout will be moved back to your stash. If you don't have enough space in your stash, you cannot enter a raid with free loadout.
Free loadouts give you a basic random kit containing a combination of a Weapon, Light Shield, Ammo for that weapon, Meds, and Utility/Gadgets for no charge. Every time you go Topside with a free loadout, you will be equipped with a Free Loadout Augment.
The Free Loadout Augment is an Augment providing the basics for scavenging Topside. When equipped, it gives the player 14 inventory slots, 4 Quick Use Slots, 2 Weapon Slots and removes your Safe Pocket Slot. With only Light Shield compatibility and a Max Loadout Weight of only 35.0.
