The Hornet is a small, armored ARC drone capable of delivering debilitating shocks to Raiders. While less agile than its nimble brother, it frequently integrates into small swarms of Wasps patrolling for Raider activity.
Combat tips
After activating combat mode, the Hornet will aim a red laser at its target before firing a single stun round. This projectile stuns Raiders for a couple of seconds and drains their shields.
The Hornet relies on four thrusters for flight and stabilization. Its forward thrusters are protected by thick armor. Destroying multiple thrusters in any combination will destabilize the drone, causing it to lose flight control and spiral into the ground. Each collision with the environment inflicts heavy damage, with a high probability of permanently disabling or destroying the machine.
- Stun rounds are relatively slow projectiles that can be dodged with good timing.
- Destroyed Hornets are often overlooked sources of Medium Ammo.
- Medium or Heavy Ammo is ideal for puncturing the armor on the front thrusters.
- Throwing a Lure Grenade can buy enough time to make a quick escape from persistent swarms.
Loot
The Hornet Driver is a unique item salvaged from a destroyed Hornet. It is used to upgrade the Gear Bench.
Codex entry
The Hornet is a small flying drone, equipped with protective armor on its front side. It sports an electric shock-weapon that stuns and damages its targets.
It's thought to be designed as an enhanced patrol unit, working with Wasps to neutralize immediate and potential threats to probing sites and other machines.
Like the Wasp, damaging its thrusters inhibits its flying capabilities. However, since the front thrusters are covered in armor, it takes a steady hand and skilled shot to reach them.
The Hornet Driver is a useful part of the drone's internals. It's speculated by Apollo to control the machine's behavior, and produce the electric shocks for its weapons. Throwing a Hornet Driver at a foe causes it to immediately discharge, stunning its target.
