Probes come down from space regularly throughout the match, and can often be seen returning after a period of time. They're said to collect soil samples before returning, although it's assumed that they're taking air/environmental samples as well. Their purpose is unknown, but the fact that they continue to arrive tells us that they haven't found what they're looking for... yet.
When they land, they emit a beep that can be heard from quite a distance. They are breachable with three different panels opening for loot.

Lore
After Completing the quest: A Bad Feeling A cutscene plays revealing that the purpose of the ARC Probe is to scan the ground in an attempt to find Speranza. Celeste says bad things happened when others were found.
