ARC Raiders Wiki is a wiki, meaning anyone can edit almost any[1] page and improve articles immediately. Small edits add up, and every editor can be proud to have made ARC Raiders Wiki better for everyone. There are two editing interfaces: the new VisualEditor (VE) and classic wikitext editing (wiki markup), which uses the Source Editor.

Content Style

An encyclopedic style with a formal tone is important: straightforward, just-the-facts, instead of essay-like, argumentative, or opinionated.

Major Edits

All editors are encouraged to be bold when improving pages, but before engaging in a major edit, a user should consider discussing proposed changes on the discussion page or in the official ARC Raiders Discord Server #wiki-chat channel.

Using your own userpage and sandbox

When making particularly large or complex changes, you may want to copy the page to your sandbox so you can make changes without being interrupted by other editors. It is also a good idea to publish changes frequently, so that a browser crash or electrical failure will not result in the loss of all your work.

Minor Edits

Examples include typographical corrections, corrections of minor formatting errors, and reversion of obvious vandalism. An edit of this kind is marked in its page's revision history with a lowercase, bolded "m" character (m).

What to mark as minor changes

  • Spelling, grammatical, and punctuation corrections, for example "Heavy shiled" to "Heavy shield"
  • Simple formatting (e.g., capitalization, or properly adding italics to a text
  • Formatting that does not change the meaning of the page (e.g., moving a picture, splitting one paragraph into two—where this is not contentious)
  • Fixing layout errors
  • Adding or correcting wikilinks, or fixing broken links and references already present in the article
  • Removing obvious vandalism

What not to mark as minor changes

  • Adding or removing content in a page
  • Adding or removing visible maintenance or other templates in a page
  • Adding or removing references/citations, external links, or categories in a page
  • Adding comments to a talk page or other discussion

Publishing Changes

When you have finished editing, you should write a short edit summary in the field underneath those words. You may use shorthand to describe your changes.

To see how the page looks with your edits, press the "Show preview" button. To see the differences between the page with your edits and the previous version of the page, press the "Show changes" button. If you're satisfied with what you see, be bold and click on the "Publish changes" button. Your changes will immediately be visible to all users.
Note: Do not sign the edit summary line with your ~~~~ signature, as it does not work there.

Reverting Changes

When to revert

Before performing a revert, carefully consider the consequences of dismissing another editor's contributions, as well as any subsequent edits linked to the original change. Assess the specific elements of the edit that are problematic and contemplate the editor's intentions. Rather than reverting entirely, consider improving the edit to enhance the article's quality. If only a portion of the edit is objectionable, a partial reversion may be more appropriate. Complete reversions should be used sparingly.

If there is a dispute, editors should work towards consensus. Instead of engaging in an edit war, which is harmful, propose your reverted change on the page's discussion page or dedicated discord channel #wiki-chat or pursue other dispute resolution alternatives.

Explain reverts

Provide a valid and informative explanation including, if possible, the principle you believe justifies the reversion. Try to remain available for dialogue, especially in the half-day or so after reverting.

If your reasons for reverting are too complex to explain in an edit summary, leave a note on the page's discussion page. It is sometimes best to leave a note on the Discussion page first and then revert, rather than the other way around; this gives the other editor a chance to agree with you and revise their edit appropriately. Conversely, if another editor reverts your change without any apparent explanation, you may wish to wait a few minutes to see if they explain their actions on the article's or your user's talk page.

Apart from all these options you can use Discord #wiki-chat channel to communicate with others.

Exceptions

Exceptions to this recommendation include the following:

  • Always remove unsourced and poorly sourced contentious material. If you are having a dispute about whether to include it, the material is automatically contentious.
  • Always remove AI generated content -especially images- until there is a consensus to include them.
  • Always remove libelous or defamatory material. Err on the side of removing suspected libel.

Page Creation

Before creating a new page, please understand ARC Raiders Wiki's notability requirements. In short, the page must have already been the subject of publication in reliable sources, such as official statements from ARC Raiders Team, official media or in-game data. Information on ARC Raiders Wiki must be verifiable; if no reliable sources can be found, then it should not have a page.

Notes

Please follow the naming conventions and the formatting while creating/editing a page or uploading a file to keep the wiki consistent.

  1. Some pages are protected from editing and marked by a lock icon at the top right. If you are not allowed to edit the page, it will have a "View source" instead of an "Edit" and "Edit source" tab.
